Waffle Day!

In March we celebrated a successful Waffle Day! Around 20 people came and enjoyed an afternoon of waffles, coffee and entertainment by Janet Mowat and Östen, a member of the Runeberg choir.

DECEMBER 4, 2021 HOLIDAY EVENT

Sponsored by the Swedish Embassy in Ottawa.

The event was held December 4, 2021 at the Swedish Canadian Manor in the Swedish Canadian Village. The event started at noon with alcohol free GLÖGG together with gingerbread cookies and blue cheese.

The participants shared some of the traditional Swedish delicacies and enjoyed a cup of strong coffee. Some people took part in making candles. Many enjoyed socializing and meeting friends after our long isolation because of covid-19. Guitar playing Jörgen Olofsson with wife Monica led us in a sing-along of Christmas related songs.

The candle makers got to take home their crafted candles. This is ljusstöpning, which is an old craft in Sweden, which typically took part in the fall before Christmas. We gave tours of the Heritage room, which was decorated for Christmas. It was a congenial atmosphere and everybody seemed to have had a Merry time.

OPENING CEREMONY Sept 15 2019.

We are open! Laila Axen cuts the ribbon on September 15th 2019. Many members and guest had gathered for this opening event. After ribbon cutting they all went to the display hall where important artifacts were on display. Everybody had a great time and enjoyed both the music (thanks Bo Fred Olsson) and the artifacts. Thanks again to all the sponsors.

Donor Appreciation Display open on June 9th, 2019

This opening honored the donors that made it possible to create our new 1000 sq. ft. Heritage room. This room included, on opening day, panels recognizing the donor companies and organizations, several Swedish heritage artifacts from the 1700 hundreds, and a BIG thank YOU from the committee.
